Fuel oil is a heavy liquid fuel obtained as a product of crude oil processing, specifically as a heavier fraction produced during refining. It is characterised by high density and viscosity, as well as a high energy content per unit of mass, making it a significant energy source for industrial plants with suitable storage, preparation and combustion systems.
Due to its high viscosity, fuel oil is usually heated and prepared before use to achieve the viscosity required for transport, atomisation and efficient combustion in burners. Its characteristics directly affect combustion efficiency, equipment operating stability and emissions during use.
